NOTFAST RUNNING CLUB
Notfast ( Newark over thirty fives and still trying) was founded in 1986 as a veterans running club and is open to anyone over the age of 35.
We cater for all abilities from the experienced runner to the complete beginner who has done little or no running, and also have a small group who just walk. Many of these are long standing members who perhaps no longer wish to run but still enjoy the social atmosphere of the club and the opportunity to keep fit.
You are just as welcome to join us whether you wish to compete in races, run as part of a team for the club or just run to keep fit.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP CLUB MEETINGS In the summer months we often use venues for training which are not restricted to Newark town. Stapleford Woods, Kelham Hills the River Trent riverside and Whisby Nature Reserve, near Lincoln have all been used. New members often comment that they discover places in Newark they had not visited before. Because we have runners of various standards and abilities new members are matched with members of a similar standard. A short meeting, usually no more than 10 minutes is held on a Tuesday before we run to inform members of forthcoming events and also results for the past week. On Thursday evenings showers are available and also many members are found to be in the bar, usually after running. AFFILIATION The club is affiliated to all the major athletics bodies, including the England Athletics, Notts 3A’s as well as The Long Distance Walking Association. We receive all relevant information about the sport and changes that are taking place. CLUB KIT A range of club kit is available including club vests, tee shirts, fleeces and available soon showerproof running jackets. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
New members are always welcome providing they are at least 35 years of age. There is no upper age limit. We still have active members in their 70’s and 80’s On first attendance we just ask for basic contact details. Those wishing to join are welcome to attend for a month, when if they wish to join, they are asked to complete an application form. Membership for the year is currently £22-00.
The club meets twice a week. On Tuesday night we meet at Woods Court Residential Home, off Walker Close, in Newark. On Thursday night we meet at Flowserve Sports and Social Club, off Hawton Lane, Balderton, Newark. We start at 7-00 pm. and new members are advised to turn up for 6-55pm. Changing facilities are limited at Woods Court but showering facilities are available at Flowserve.
The club is noted for its social side! We try and put on at least one social event a month. Past events have included a ‘bacon butty’ run held at Flintham, and a night at ‘the dogs’ at Colwick . We have also held Ten-Pin Bowling evenings and Quiz nights. Annually a weekend in the Lake District is organised and more local Sunday walks are also held, sometimes in the Peak District. We hold a Christmas Club Run, followed by various awards and a Treasure Hunt as well as Christmas meal and function.
Running events are also seen as furthering the social side of the club. These include the Notts Summer League, The High Peak Relay, The Adidas Thunder Run and The London Marathon. New events provide new opportunities.
